First Sip

Black licorice, ash and black raspberry fruit mingle with notes of pine and earth.

The Sommelier Says

Malbec wines from Argentina have stormed onto the American scene in the last few years. The Aleph is one of the most sophisticated Malbecs we have come across. It’s a big, bold wine with unexpected elegance, and the tannins are ripe and beautifully integrated. An initial burst of fresh blueberry fruit yields to flavors of conifer and limestone.

The Inside Story

In France, Malbec was principally blended with Cabernet and Merlot-based wines of Bordeaux and did not come into its own as a varietal wine until it was transplanted to Argentina. Here, in the high Andean desert of Mendoza, the arid climate and extreme temperature differences between day and night proved the key to unlocking the grape’s potential. The founders of Aleph wines are natives of the region with an intimate knowledge of the land and its people. Clearly, they have taken to heart the admonition, “Make no small plans,” because their ambition is to help bring Argentine wines to a position of unquestioned greatness on the world wine stage.

Perfect Pairing

Argentina is famous for its grass-fed beef, and this wine will shine with red meat of nearly any preparation. For something less obvious, try it with our suggestion of Cumin and Honey Scented Lamb Chops with Eggplant.

Last Sip

Aleph wines are distinguished by their finesse and muscular elegance—a bold refinement that is apparent in this winning Malbec.
